The British Retail Consortium and Institute of Packaging have combined to produce a Technical Standard for companies manufacturing and supplying food packaging materials for retailer branded products. The Standard was published in October 2001. Companies who comply to the Standard will demonstrate that they have implemented a satisfactory hygiene management system and established a quality management system and relevant process control procedures. At Lynx Polythene Ltd we use the Standard as a framework for all our operating procedures. We welcome visits by customers to our process and warehouse facilities so that they may evaluate our standards of hygiene and housekeeping. We are also happy to supply copies of our Work Instructions and policies relating to our operational procedures. |

UK Retailers and their suppliers of retail branded products must take "all reasonable precautions and exercise all due diligence" in the development, manufacture, distribution, advertising or sale of food products to the consumer. Suppliers of packaging to UK retailers, or food manufacturers providing retailer branded products, have an obligation to put appropriate systems and controls in place to ensure the suitability of their packaging for safe food use.
