ArvorLynx Polythene Ltd goes into 2004 with the addition of a new in-house service to industry.

A major investment at the South Humberside Estate factory has added bag making equipment to complement the company’s stretch film production, its basic product for the past five years.

Now Lynx can offer polythene bags of any size for any application, including bespoke sizes in lengths from 25mm upwards and up to a metre wide, either plain or printed.

“It’s a case of if you can’t find it on the shelf, Lynx will make it,” said Managing Director Andy Male.  “We can produce unusual shapes and sizes to suit any requirements from small sandwich bags to builders’ sacks.

“We have always had a high demand for bags so we decided to invest in the machinery to accommodate this demand and to give us complete flexibility in size and quantity.”

“We will manufacture everything from small quantities of bespoke bags to long runs of standard sizes,” he added.

It is less than three years since Lynx moved to larger premises on the Grimsby industrial estate, but already plans are in hand for 2004 to expand into an adjacent warehouse.

With stretch film production now well established, the company is also branching out into other areas in addition to bag manufacture.

At the end of last year, Lynx took on the distributorship for the Epipack Spino Wraptor, a range of automatic pallet wrapping equipment.

This newly launched product provides a safe, clean and economical alternative to hand wrapping.

Fully adjustable, the Spino Wraptor range packs around 20 pallets an hour, handles loads up to 2.5 metres high to a maximum weight of two tons and has proved to be economical for any company wrapping more than 10 pallets a day.

With these two major additions to its core services, Lynx Polythene is looking forward to supplying the requirements of all areas of industry in 2004.

What began seven years ago as a small company supplying stretch film has now expanded to become a major player in the packaging sector.

Gradual development has seen Lynx Polythene Ltd diversify into polythene bags, cardboard boxes, tapes and strapping, providing the complete packaging solution for its clients:

·         More than 70 tonnes of pallet shrink film in various specifications and colours are held in stock, for immediate delivery, in all grades including 17, 20, 23, 28 and 34mu films in both standard and power pre-stretch qualities.

In addition to its standard ranges of film Lynx Polythene Ltd also supplies a bespoke range of coloured and tinted quality films, ideal for simple identification purposes,  quality control or security applications.

·         A full range of machinery is available to compliment these films. Semi-automatic and fully automatic pallet wrapping equipment goes hand in hand with the range of machine films to give a total wrapping solution. A large range of accessories is available to ensure that each machine is geared precisely to the customer’s individual needs, application and budget.

·         In 2003, major investment at the Lynx factory on the South Humberside Industrial Estate added bag making equipment to complement the company’s stretch film production. Polythene bags can be manufactured in any size for any application, including bespoke sizes in lengths from 25mm upwards and up to a metre wide, either plain or printed.

·         Last month saw Lynx secure the UK agency for the range of steel banding first introduced by the company earlier in the year.  To complement this product, Lynx developed a woven polyester strapping of equal strength to steel but more pliable and safer to use and introduced the Fliplock buckle, a unique device designed to join the strapping together.

For ease of use, Lynx also developed a Cabkit – a handy dispenser for the woven strapping, complete with Fliplock buckle fastening and specially designed to be carried by lorry, van or forklift truck drivers.

·         A recent introduction to Lynx Polythene’s services is the supply of cardboard boxes to any specification, with custom pre-printed coding where necessary.  While there is no upper limit on quantity, customers can also order a single box or a short run of sample boxes.

“We need a lot of boxes ourselves so the sensible thing was to buy in the equipment and manufacture them in-house,” Lynx Managing Director Andy Male explained. “This then enabled us to expand the range of products available to our customers.”

For the benefit of clients who wish to take advantage of the service, Lynx operates an inventory management system whereby Lynx staff visit the company weekly or bi-weekly to monitor packaging use and replenish stocks as required.

This frees up customer time, reduces the amount of capital tied up in stock – invoices are only generated for packaging used - and, through Lynx’ policy of supplying on a “just in time” basis, ensures a ready supply of products.

Despite the recent difficulties caused by fluctuating oil prices and a shortage of raw materials, forward thinking has enabled Lynx Polythene to continue meeting customer requirements and to restrict price rises to a competitive level.

Bonzo Distributorship

Following the success of its new bagging facility, Lynx Polythene Ltd is once again adding to its portfolio of products.

Having been awarded a distributorship for steel banding earlier this year, the Grimsby company has now developed a woven Polyester strapping of equal strength to steel but far more pliable and safer to use.

And complementing this new product is the distributorship for the Fliplock buckle, a unique device designed to join the strapping together.

“The woven strapping comes in a variety of thicknesses to take up to a 750 kilo break load and is equivalent in price to steel banding,” Lynx Managing Director Andy Male explained.  “It doesn’t rust or mark the product in any way and one of its main benefits for this area is that it is food safe.”

“Steel banding still has its place in industry and we keep a good stock in varying sizes but there are a lot of applications where flexible woven strapping is equally, or even more suitable.”

For ease of use, Lynx have also developed a Cabkit – a handy dispenser for the woven strapping, complete with Fliplock buckle fastening and specially designed to be carried by lorry, van or forklift truck drivers.

The Fliplock adds the finishing touch to the strapping, forming a highly efficient strap joint.

It is the only known plastic buckle that has such a very high joint efficiency and was originally developed for the baling industry to be used with high strength Polyester strapping to contain compressed bales of fibres for transport and distribution.

Now the Fliplock, which is patented worldwide, has also found uses in many other applications where products are strapped for packaging and distribution.

These include strapping of circular or irregular shaped bundles, general pallet strapping and in the more specialised area of the industrial construction industry where it is used for tying supply cables to trays, where the retaining straps can be applied with one hand only.

By looping the strapping around a product several times and using only one Fliplock buckle, very high retaining strengths are possible, well above that of a single retaining strap.  This means that only one size of strap and Fliplock buckle need be stocked.

In addition, when used with woven strapping, the Fliplock buckle and the strap can be re-used for several trips making this a very economic packaging method and ideal for companies that control the distribution of goods.

The benefits of the Fliplock include:

·         Fast & Easy Loading

·         Minimises Product Contamination

·         Adequate Tensioning by Hand

·         High Joint Efficiency

·         Strong as Steel

·         Looping Increases Load Capacity

·         No Sharp Edges

·         Excellent Shock Absorption Qualities

·         Reusable – an important cost saving

·         Suits ALL Plastic Strapping

·         Extremely Lightweight

·         No Rust

The Cabkit is currently being demonstrated to companies around the area and more details can be found on the website www.lynxpolythene.com/.  Alternatively, telephone Lynx Polythene on 01472 886287.
